THE CURATIVE PROPERTIES OF CHICKEN AND CHICKEN FAT – CASE
And here is another experience with chicken fat which is just as interesting. In a lonely farmstead a young man hurt himself badly while felling a tree. The axe went right into his knee and cracked the knee cap. He dragged himself to the house with difficulty. There was no doctor for miles around and, of course, there was no such thing as a telephone. His father could not think what to do. Meanwhile, the boy’s leg had become very swollen and discoloured. The lymph glands in the groin became swollen and painful. Blood poisoning had already set in. His mother then remembered that her grandmother had always used chicken fat in cases of blood poisoning. So she killed several chickens and spread the raw fat on the whole leg as thickly as possible.
The doctor, whom the family finally succeeded in contacting, could only come the following morning. As an experienced travelling country doctor, he did not consider the chicken fat treatment strange and appeared well satisfied with the young man’s condition. He took the patient with him to the hospital for surgical treatment and in a short time the leg was completely healed. The mother was convinced that she had saved her boy’s life by rubbing on the fat as soon as the blood poisoning became evident.
