NEW STUDY CONFIRMS THE AMAZING EFFECTS OF THINKING ON HOW YOU FEEL

A recent study, conducted by researchers at Yale University, gives more strength to the theory that if you believe that you are healthy, you’ll have a longer, healthier life. The results of the Yale University study showed that emotions, such as happiness at work, are better predictors of illness than medical history in people of all ages. Unhappy people usually dwell on the negative, while positive thinking people appear to be both happier and healthier. For example, the researchers say that being unhappy as a homemaker can pose an especially high risk of health problems.

An ever-increasing amount of scientific evidence supports the theory that the mind and emotions achieve a significant effect on the body’s overall state of health, how we think and feel appears to have a significant affect on the body’s main defense mechanism for fighting off illness and disease, the immune system.

Many studies have shown that positive feelings such as love, security and faith help to strengthen the immune response, giving the body a better chance of preventing and fighting of illness and disease. At the same time, negative feelings, such as tension, worry, and depression seem to undermine the immune response, making our bodies feel sluggish and worn-out. That’s when we appear to be virtually defenseless, and prone to aches, pains, illness, and disease. Many such negative emotional states have been linked to diseases such as cancer, coronary heart and artery diseases, kidney malfunctions, lung ailments, diabetes, migraine headaches, and many other afflictions.

What this means is that you are far more in control of your life than you may realize, without being aware of it, you play a major role in creating your own state of health every day. Everything you eat, think, feel, and believe has a great effect on your overall health and happiness. Just as we’ve seen previously a healthful diet and regular exercise can help improve and maintain our general state of health, a positive, optimistic outlook can also work wonders. It is possible, with a positive mental outlook, to learn to be the master of your inner resposes, and in so doing strengthen your body’s immunity against illness and disease.
