EFFECTIVE AND NON EFFECTIVE DIETS
Fruit Juice Diet Makes You Eat Fewer Calories
Researchers have found that fructose—the kind of sugar found in fruits—mixed with water can be an effective appetite suppressant. According to the research, you’ll get the best results if you drink a glass of orange juice— rich in fructose—about a half hour to one hour prior to a meal. By doing so, you’ll most likely consume fewer calories at mealtime. Even though a fructose-laden fruit juice drink contains about 200 calories, the net calorie suppression averages about 100 to 225 calories per meal.
While fructose mixed with water works as an appetite suppressant, and doesn’t require eliminating any specific foods from your diet, or doesn’t produce a rapid weight loss, a doctor’s opinion should be considered before you attempt to lose weight in this manner. Even a moderate reduction diet should have a doctor’s consent before beginning.
Why Low-Carbohydrate, High-Protein Diets Don’t Work
This type of diet features a limited amount of high-protein foods, such as red meat, eggs and cheese, with little or no carbohydrates being consumed. There are no restrictions on caloric intake with this type of diet.
A diet that is essentially high in protein and low in carbohydrates will ordinarily bring about a rapid weight loss due to a loss of fluid and lean body tissue. And since the amount of calories consumed is not restricted, little or no body fat is lost. This type of diet is not nutritionally well-balanced, and is very high in fat content. It can also lead to such problems as diarrhea and fluid imbalance.
